The need for instrumentation...
Irrespective of how or where a strain gauge is installed, further equipment is
required to monitor any change of stress on the substrate material. It is usual
to convert the millivolt output from a bridge to either a proportional voltage or
current signal so that the signal can be read by a digital multimeter, process
display or data logger. We can supply strain gauge installations with a dedicated amplifier, calibrated
to a pre-defined range with a variety of output configurations. Rather than
supplying fixed gain amplifiers we can adjust the gain to provide the required
output signal. i.e. 4-20mA, 0.5 to 5.0 Volts etc.Telemetry Systems
For rotating components we can supply a range of telemetry equipment,
from battery powered to inductive systems ideal for installations on industrial
machines as well as both production and racing cars.Process Indicator
The most common method of displaying a strain gauge signal is to connect the
load cell to a process indicator. These provide the power supply for the bridge
and can be set to display the output signal directly in engineering units,
e.g. Newtons. Kg, psi etc.Whatever the application we can select from a wide range of manufacturers
to supply the most suitable equipment.

The photos show an example of the infra-red telemetry equipment, this is just
one of the many types available from The Strain Gauging Company.By simply attaching strain gauges to a driveshaft/propshaft (or any rotating
component) and installing the equipment, strain measurements can then be
transmitted via an infra-red signal or radio frequency. The output signal from
the demodulator unit is then compatible with all leading data loggers.AMPLIFIERS
